In the developed world around us, efforts to raise awareness have directly resulted in significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of autism, but in developing countries this is not so much the case. As you can see in the timeline above, in the poorer parts of Africa, it’s a condition that is still barely understood and is looked upon as a supernatural, devilish affliction, sometimes even by health professionals.
This is why Southerly is supporting Kay Disang, striving to support her autistic son in Botswana in terrible circumstances. It’s a cause very close to the heart of one of our team, and will help to raise awareness of the condition in Kay’s immediate community and beyond.
Please donate whatever you can to help Kay build a better life for herself and her son, and help us raise awareness of autism in the communities that need it most.
